As summer draws to a close, I’ve caught myself daydreaming about lazy days on the beach, soaking up every last ounce of sunshine, avoiding goodbyes…

Fall, which we all know I love so dearly, is always a bittersweet welcome. Knowing that right behind it is a long cold winter, makes summer feel far too fleeting. It makes you want to capture it in a jar and so you can pull it out in the middle of January.

How do you feel about the end of the summer? Are you excited to see it go? Already counting the days until it comes back? I think I’m a little bit of both right now.

Sigh… I went missing again this week didn’t I? This summer is completely passing me by. I have never wanted summer to end so badly in my life. I have this idea in my head that Fall will be oh-so-much better, easier, less busier, but in reality, it may actually be more stressful than this summer. Instead of focusing on the not-so-good, a few good things from this week…

a visit and bocce game with dear friends we don’t see nearly enough

air-conditioning for these hot days of summer

registering for a week long training in Chicago (ok training not so fun. Chicago, very fun)

the prospect of a day a the pool

the opening of a brand new target in my neighborhood
Ok, that is a weak-sauce merriness list, but hey, it’s something! Hope you all have a good weekend! Any fun plans?

June felt like it lasted forever but now that you are here, July, I can’t believe its already the dog days of summer. I’m starting you off with a bit of a slow pace after rolling off of two vacation weekends and my goal is to not let you just wash away with my laziness!

I think my beach days are over for the summer {sigh… to have the beach in my backyard again} but I hope to get a few more days of sunshine out of you July.  I’d also like to cross berry picking off of my summer bucket list sometime this month. I did get a notice that berries are in!

July, I think the best part about you is hands-down the barbeques. I have been lucky enough to have already enjoyed a couple in the first few days of the month, but I’m praying there are more.

One thing I know for certain is that you, July, are super busy. By the end of the month, I will have attended two weddings and a reception barbeque, hopefully made serious progress in my 5k training, taken an exam, met up with Brandi, finished a rotation at work, and celebrated too many birthdays and anniversaries to count. I must remember to still take the time to sit back and soak it all in.

I’m ready to get it all started… even if I am a few days late.

Well friends, I am officially off to Bermuda for the rest of the week!  I am so excited to lay on the beach with my family, soak up the sun and have fruity drinks delivered to my chair…  Now that it is officially summer, I decided to make a bucket list of everything I would like to do. My summer weekends fill up so quickly with trips here, visits there, weddings everywhere… hopefully writing down a list will help me to get some good, quality summertime in every so often.

What’s on your bucket list this year?

Summer Solstice! Can you believe it? 2011 is just flying by… I’ve noticed this past spring, I haven’t been all too excited about summer. I’m not entirely sure of my reason, but I think it has something to do with the constant coming and going and the lack of the essential three month summer vacation that being in school always promised. However, I do love to dream about future summers… particularly of summers spent at a lake house in the Catskills or in western North Carolina. It doesn’t have to be a very big house… but an old wooden one would be perfect. I’d fill it with vintage furniture and accents {like the oars above}, have the doors constantly open during the day, and it would always smell like summer inside.

There would be the softest cotton sheets on every bed, kids would share rooms willingly and there would be minimal electronics {I would say no TV, but I love curling up to an old movie on rainy summer nights.} The place would be filled with old books {hopefully many of them filled with maps and children’s stories}, board games and dried flowers.

There will be lots of blue, lots of linen, and lots of sunwashed whites. Doesn’t it sound like a wonderful place to spend the summer? I’m sure that one day it will be.
