… of husbands.

husband.

(he’s the one in italics)

(regarding our plan to read the entire Divine Comedy)
“We should give up netflix (etc) for Holy Week so we have time to read the rest of the Purgatorio before Easter.”
“What do you mean “etc”"
“Well, just to be non-legalistic. Just because we give up netflix doesn’t mean we can watch hulu or amazon prime.”
“Damnit.”
“Or we can just watch any of them but not until we finish the reading.”
“Sounds better.”

(in reference to our offspring)
“He is so much more than like, a pet.”

(from a text message in the middle of the day)
“I want a dog named Phaedo.”
“mmmkay”
“Fido, Phaedo, get it?”

Despite having a 3 month old, J and I hosted Thanksgiving this year. Actually, I should say that my mother hosted it at our house. {Love ya momma!} I did quite a bit of the preparations, but I think she really did most of the work.  Granted, I am the only one who can feed the kid… so it happens.

My brother and his family came to town as well and I was so happy to see my little boy with his sweet cousins. Seeing him with them was such a treat. I’m so thankful that little M is so well loved.

My niece was absolutely in love with him. She would sit and stare at him, tickling his belly and say “I wonder what he is going to look like when he’s older.” My nephew loved him too, but being a 3 year old boy he clearly got bored with a baby pretty quickly.

M loved the extra attention… but this picture was from when they first arrived. He didn’t seem too pleased to find out that he now had to share Grammie!

It was a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with lots of good food and of course wonderful family. The little man took some epic naps the day the kids left – they wore him out!

Today I am thankful for…

the husband, particularly today,
on the eve of his day of birth!

Five years ago I made a leap and started dating the man who would become my husband. Even then, on October 11, 2006, I had a pretty good feeling that he would be my husband some day. Within the next few months or so, I was down right certain of it.

We had been toying with the idea of dating for a while  but it wasn’t until this day that I agreed to it. J was ironically in Pittsburgh, where we have lived since we were married. The day he got back we baked cookies in my dorm’s kitchen while listening to music {someday I’ll tell you the story about how he won me over with an Nsync song}.

Our first official date was at the always-classy Logan’s Roadhouse. I wore makeup. He made fun of me for that fact saying I only did it because it was a date {he was right}.

I won’t say that they have been the best five years because they have had quite a few struggles {plus, really, 1992 kind of rocked}, but I can say that they have been the most fulfilling five years of my life. I wouldn’t trade them for the world Love you my dear.

PS – In the spirit of Emily, I may have to share the details of our funny little love story some day {though she’s got me beat with concussions and falling trees.}

PPS – That first photo was taken on our first anniversary during my senior year of college. Weren’t we adorable way back then? It was tradition in our apartment {our = me and my female roomies not me and J!!!} to take pics in that awkward spot with the painting behind us. Random fact I thought you’d want to know.

My deepest apologies friends for disappearing with no notice at all! The week between two vacations got a little hectic and I needed to prioritize a bit… and I realize I haven’t shared any pictures of Bermuda with you! So here are a few to give you a feel for the beautiful island, along with the lessons I learned on the trip!

greet people before asking for anything

it’s amazing how far a little good afternoon will go

there’s almost always room for one more rum swizzle
or two or four

you can find friends just about anywhere
every evening, we had wine or champagne sent to our dinner table from new friends we met along the way
there is no excuse for food that isn’t delicious
sure, we ate things that were much more delicious than omelets and waffles, but this really was delicious
take chances
I was more hesitant about getting into the cold water than I was about kayaking but still. Put your mind to it, do it and you may actually enjoy it. Simple as that.
family is always first
we’re still working on photo-shopping J into the picture, but I really should have had his head on a stick.

PS – Another lesson learned, all businessmen should wear shorts and knee high socks in the summer. So sharp.
