You know when something is just right? At first glance you just know what to do? Well, I had a moment like that recently… in a job interview.

See, I’ve been working in Big 4 accounting since I graduated college. I told myself 2  years and I’m out… well, 4 years later and I’m finally out.

I’m now working at a super small firm that is a stone’s throw away and will likely offer me more opportunities that the massive Big 4 firms couldn’t {or wouldn’t}.

I started last week and I couldn’t be happier. Sure, there will still be challenges along the way {um, tax season with an infant?} but I am so much more comfortable going through them where I am now.

Isn’t that great? I’ve never felt this way about a job before and I can’t tell you how awesome it feels.

Welcome to the new series, Real Life! Sometimes life is messy and I want to share those real moments with everyone. Mary Helen {of A Written Purpose} and I will be sharing these real moments with you every week. Feel free to join in by linking your post below!

To start, I figured I give you a glimpse into who I really am. We’ll get into some of the nitty gritty stories in the coming weeks!

I’m a horrible nail biter. I try so hard not to, but I can’t help it. I’m much better than I was in the past, but generally my nails look like crud.

I kind of suck at sewing. I know, I’ve posted a few of my projects and DIYs in the past but to be honest, I shortcut everything. I generally make things so they are good enough for me but rarely are they good enough to sell or even give away. Seriously. I have trouble cutting and sewing straight lines. No lie.

My room is an eternal mess.

I edited away some pregnancy zits in almost every single one of my weekly photos.

I’m Catholic. Unabashedly so. Things leads to a great many uncomfortable political disputes, so I often avoid it on the blog. But believeyoume, it’s true.

My kid is currently fussing and I’m mildly ignoring him.

On my wedding day, I was at my highest not-pregnancy-related weight of my life. Usually works the other way around doesn’t it?

I’m kind of a horrible friend. I’m so bad at keeping in touch with people.

Generally, I don’t like cooking. I like trying a new recipe and succeeding, but cooking every day is a serious chore for me. I’d rather scrub the toilets every day. {But yeah, I don’t do that either.}

Speaking of cleaning… currently, I clean when people come to visit and rarely any other time.

That’s me. No makeup. No shower. No editing.

What are some real things about you that don’t often come across on your blog? Write about it and post the link here! Come back next week for some more real life stories from me and MH!

It’s hard to believe, but it has been six years since J and I started dating. To celebrate, a photo from each year!

2006

{still glad those sunglasses of his are toast}

2007
our first anniversary

2008
just another day

2009
got engaged
{and married!}

2010
enjoying married life

2011
still enjoying married life

2012
found out we’re having a baby!

But the two most important events over the past six years…

All is good.

Love you J! Can’t wait to see what the years ahead bring!

boy

I honestly can’t say that I had any preference or intuition one way or another.  I’ve always said I wanted a boy first and while I of course would have been overjoyed with a sweet little girl, I am over the moon about having a little man in the house.

I can just picture a little boy toddling around the house behind his dad with a book in one hand and his drink in another {ahem, this sweet boy’s drink will be more age appropriate than his father’s!}  J can’t wait to take him camping, hiking and teach him everything about Jethro Tull.  I am a bit overwhelmed… what do I do with a boy? I hope he likes Lincoln Logs. I always loved those.  I hope my tomboy side comes out a bit when the time is right. His dad may have a monopoly on hiking and camping, but I did my fair share of traipsing through the woods when I was a little girl too!

So many of our friends and family guessed it was a boy… and they were right! For those of you with your own little boys, please send me some tips!

I’ve been keeping a little secret from all of you. I was so hesitant to talk about it or announce it, but it’s officially official now so I figure, why not?!?

moving1

No, no, not another blog move {that would be silly!} I mean, J and I are moving out of our apartment in the city and into a house in the burbs! It’s a sweet cape cod with 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a gorgeous backyard and a sweet little finished basement. It doesn’t need too much work, but a few updates here and there.

moving2

While we closed on the house this week, we won’t fully move until tax season is over. There just simply isn’t enough time to pack and move right now! Instead we will enjoy our last few months of living right in town, start packing up a few boxes here and there, and putting some finishing pre-move touches on the new place! I’ll be sure to keep you updated on my decorating ideas and ask for your input!
